Info for Summer 2011 Workshops

New This Season!
Handmade Paper and Book
Meets Wednesdays 4:00pm - 6:00pm
June 8, 15, 22 & 29

Students will make paper, paste papers and books in this weekly workshop. The first two weeks will be devoted to papermaking and colorful paste papers and the last two weeks will be for making beautiful books with them. No prior experience is necessary.

Sessions are $25.00 ea.
Enroll in 3 sessions for 60.00 and get the 4th free
One-time materials fee $15.00

Big Paper
July 7 - 8, 2011 (Thurs. & Fri.)
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

In this workshop participants will use a pulp sprayer to make large handmade paper sheets. Great for wall hangings, window shades and other large scale work!
Cost: $150.00

Sculptural Handmade Paper lamps
July 13-15, 2011 (Wed. - Fri.)
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Create translucent sculptural pieces with handmade paper! The process involves producing an armature with willow and cloth. Then layers of pulp made from eastern plant fibers (i.e. kozo or gampi) and indigenous plant fibers are applied to the cloth. When the pulp is dry, the cloth is removed, leaving a strong, translucent paper wedded to the willow support.
Optional electrical units and lamp shade supplies will be available for purchase to use with your handmade paper sculpture.
Cost: $225. 00

Super Thin Handmade Papers!
August 10, 2011 (Wed.)
10:00 am - 4:00 p.m.

You will make translucent sheets of paper by hand from a wide variety of fibers including those from indigenous plants, eastern plant fibers and over beaten fibers. Western and eastern sheetforming techniques will be utilized.
This workshop is perfect for those of you who have made paper before and want to perfect your technique. This paper will be great for lamps, collages, chine collé on prints, drawings, etc.
Cost $75.00

Printmaking with or without a Press!
August 16 - 18, 2011 (Tue. - Thurs.)
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

In this class, you will make prints using non-toxic methods of printmaking. We will create prints that are one-of-a-kind as well as make plates that can produce editions of multiples. Printmaking techniques will include:

Water-base Monotypes with Golden’s new Open Acrylic Paint line
Silk Aquatints which can be editioned on a press
Relief & Intaglio printing with a wide range of easily found materials

All levels of experience are welcome.
Cost: $225. + $15 materials fee

Special Projects in Handmade Paper
By Appointment 10:00 am - 4:00 p.m.

This is a special opportunity for students enrolled in any of the workshops to return to finish work or to use the Hollander beater to prepare pulp for you or your students
Cost: $75:00 per day
